Movies: The Time Traveler's Wife

THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BOOKS OF ALL TIME AND IT'S BEING MADE INTO A MOVIE!!!

Starring Eric Bana (meh he's alright) and Rachel Mcadam (who doesn't love her!), this is definitely going to be a tear-jerker. I CANNOT WAIT!!!

You can watch the trailer here, in HD of course :P

Sale: Guiseppe Zanotti flats at Intermix online

I went to the opening ceremony for the Guiseppe Zanotti flagship store in HK (thanks dee <3 ) and I saw these pretty studded flats on the shelf in a couple of different colours. I tried them on not expecting much because I have wide feet and mosts don't make my feet look pretty, but I was surprised to find them stretchy enough to accommodate the width of my feet as well as firm enough to make them look skinnier. Furthermore, the bottom of the flats are padded and cushy making them supppper comfy. The only other brand that I have found to have this feature is Tory Burch , but I'm not a big fan of the logo so I never bought a pair. Anyway, the GZ flats were priced at over $5000 which was a fair bit over my budget. I mean, Lanvin flats are $4000 and that's still a lot of money for ballet flats.

I have a feeling this is going to sell out soon because the price is so good so hurry up and buy it now!

Geek Post: The Big Picture

So I was trying to catch up on the news about conflicts in Iran (I know, super worldly of me) and I was on a bunch of news websites and found a great site called The Big Picture which basically reports news with a small amount of writing and a
whole lot of pictures. The photographs themselves are quite stunning and really tell a story. Here are some pics I got off their website:

Check it out if you are bored with CNN/bbc/iht etc.

Mo Liu Stuff: Puzzle part 3

Man. I had such a busy day at the office today. So glad the day is over. Anyway, since I have no brain power left, here's a puzzle that you guys can solve for me!! Good luck!  :)

Burning rope

There are two lengths of rope.
Each one can burn in exactly one hour.
They are not necessarily of the same length or width as each other.
They also are not of uniform width (may be wider in middle than on the end), thus burning half of the rope is not necessarily 1/2 hour.

By burning the ropes, how do you measure exactly 45 minutes worth of time?

Geek Post: Watch streaming TV shows in HD

Hola! So my friend recommended this aweseom website called ninjavideos where you can watch TV shows, movies, cartoons, documentaries and more. What's good about it that you can watch them in HD (High Definition for you non-nerds) AND it's streaming so you don't have to download them. You do however have to option to download the episodes/movies if you want (in HD of course). Also, you don't have to click on a gazillion links before you get to watch the show (like surfthechannel.com or megavideo). The selection of TV shows consists of mainly American TV shows like Gossip Girl, Ugly Betty, CSI, etc. and while they do have a movie selection, it's pretty small.

Alrighty, don't forget you have to click on the "Ninjavideo Helper" link which basically enables you to watch the videos on the website. It's written in red letters right about the video links but I have a feeling most of you will miss it and think the vids don't work. Here's what is says:

You must click yes on the security dialog.
The NinjaVideo Helper Beta 0.3.9 is required
 to view videos on NinjaVideo.net

If you don't have the DivX webplayer (this let's you watch the vid in HD) then ninjavideos provides a link for you to download it. Also, click on the links which have DIVX MIRROR next to it in brackets. If you click on the flash link it basically shows you the video from megavideo which sucks because you can only watch it for like an hour before it sto
ps and says you have to wait another hour to continue watching.

Currently loving: The Big Bang Theory (the nerdiest tv show you will ever encounter but it's hilarious. check it out. warning: major nerd humour so if you are too cool then don't watch this.hah.)

H&M & Jimmy Choo...enough said.

I have never been a fan of Jimmy Choo's shoes or accessories, and I don't think I will ever be...but I am still excited about the collaboration. It is always interesting to see how high-end designer teams produce affordable and hot goodies with a 'low' budget. November 14th boy and girls (also collaborating on Men's collection this time!), mark it down on your dairy!

As quoted on the official H&M website...
"This autumn, British accessory brand Jimmy Choo will bring its international glamour and covetable shoes and bags to selected H&M stores. The collection will be available from November 14 in around 200 stores across the world. It is the first time that H&M is collaborating with an accessories brand, and to celebrate Jimmy Choo will extend its design vision for this collection to women’s clothing to complement the accessories. Further exciting news is that this collaboration includes a men’s collection of shoes, bags and accessories......Read More

Smudge-Free Eyelids

So last night I crashed at my friend's place because I was, well, let's just say I wasn't "feeling well". Anyway, I woke up this morning feeling ... "sick".... went to the bathroom, looked in the mirror and then wished I hadn't. Sigh. To make things worse, I opened up my tiny make up bags that usually carries my make up essentials (eyeliner, concealer, etc) only to find half of them missing.

ROARRRRR

Anyway, here's what was inside:

Since I didn't have my Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner in hand, nor did i have an eyelash curler or mascara, I had to make do with my MAC Technakohl Liner, pictured above. Now, this is a great eyeliner, it's can be smudgey but it's also fairly waterproof for the lower lash line. However, if you use kohl eyeliner on the upper eyelash line it usually smudges and forms an unattractive black line on your eyelid.

Here is a remedy for those ugly eyeliner smudges:

1. Rub a small amount of Lola Mousse Eye Base and Primer. This is a really great product that I recommend everyone to get. Not only does it help keep your eyelids oil-free, it also intensifies the colour of your eyeliner (i.e. makes it darker) once applied on top of the base. If you don't wear eyeshadow, the base makes your eyelids look nice and matt. It's has the consistency of chocolate mousse (hence the name) and a little goes a long way with this product.
2. Draw a line above your upper lashline with the kohl pencil and whatever thickness you desire.
3. Apply powder on your lids. This just stops the eyeliner from smudging onto the base. You need the base so the powder has something to hold onto.

Today I was out for 5 hours or so, mainly walking around Causeway Bay and when I got back home my eyelids were smudge free.  Success!

Treasure Hunt

I went hunting for vintage dresses at Beatniks last weekend and scored 3 beautiful summer dresses. Beatniks has been around since 1997.  It's opened by a couple; the husband is the buyer and the wife is the shop keeper.  She basically does everything from styling to steaming clothes to keeping track of the stock.  Not to mention that the couple also does instant alternation on the clothing.  The shop has moved around a couple of times but its latest location is at No. 32 Graham Street in Central (opposite Berry Good).  Welcome to ask me for directions.  Anyway, here's one of three beauties I bought...

Outfit of the day:
Here I paired it with Alaia Heels and Dries Van Noten Clutch.  Everything about this dress is lovely; the colour, the print, the length, and the way the dress flares out at the hip bone level...yumm.

I found these earrings in a random boutique in Causeway Bay a couple of years ago. Beautiful aren't they?

Finally, a closer look at my beloved Alaia Heels from SS08.  I feel like a princess every time I wear them.  If people ask me what a "must-have" item in a wardrobe is, I'd say a pair of Alaia heels; not Louboutins, not Choos, not Roger vivier, but definitely a pair of Alaia.

Mo Liu Stuff: Puzzle part 1

This is a mathematical challenge, and it's been said that:
If you're an engineer, you should be able to solve it in three Minutes;
if you're an architect, in three hours; if you're a doctor, in six
hours; if you're an accountant, in three months and if you're a lawyer,
probably never.

What is the missing number in this logical series?
1, 2, 6, 42, 1806, ____???

I solved this in less than 2 min. I should be under the "doctor" category. Give it a try and post up your times and occupation (or field of study)! Please don't post the answer, it's one of those answers where you know you're right when you get it. BUT if you really must know leave your email and I'll send you the answer.

Come on lawyers, prove this wrong!

Sales after sales after sales...NOT

Last weekend, I went to check out the sales at Landmark and everything was on mega sale.  I made stops at Harvey Nichols, Dries Van Noten, Sonia Rykiel, TSE say...etc., and actually walked out of Landmark empty-handed (please APPLAUD).  To my surprise, most of the items from this season at Dries Van Noten are still on the racks, so if you are a fan of Dries then hurry down to their boutiques to check out the collection. Everything from SS09 are currently 40% off!  The sales at Lane Crawford weren't great, because I found that LC sometimes jacks up the prices up so much that the sale prices are around the same as buying them elsewhere for the original price. So make sure you do your homework (aka online shopping) to get the best deal.

Shopping Bag:

Miu Miu Python Sandals, HK$2,050 (Originally HK$4,100) at Lane Crawford: If I remember correctly, these should be from SS08, but they ran out of my size last summer.  I have no idea why they are still selling it in the shops, but I guess they restocked it again. Good for me! Do  I even need to explain why I bought these? I think the picture speaks for itself.

Dries Van Noten Clutch in Toffee Brown, HK$4,920 (Originally HK$8,200) at Lane Crawford: I have always been a fan of Dries's accessories, clothing...everything really.  I love the colour of the leather and of course their signature metal bar at the bottom of the clutch.

Toga Short-sleeved Blazer, HK$8,400 (Originally HK$14,000) at Joyce: It was love at first sight, and it is currently my favourite piece from this season. Here I paired it with American Apparel Skirt and Yves Saint Laurent Cage boots.

Here is a closer look at YSL Cage Boots in Grey and Black heels.  I purchased it at luisaviaroma.com last month for EURO 741. It was a good deal because the order was free of tax and shipping cost. The marked price of these boots is HKD10,500 at On Pedder and Lane Crawford.  Not only that I got it at a much cheaper price, but the best part is...they don't have this colour in Hong Kong!

Nail Colour of the day:

Lime. I got it done a couple of days ago and realised it matches with my Valextra passport case. Please excuse my chubby fingers :P

Imju Fiberwig Mascara

So I was on the Oprah Winfrey website the other day (shut up, it's amazing, go check it out before you judge) and under their "Beauty Gizmos That Really Work!" section was a small article on tubing mascaras. Here's what they wrote:

"Lengthening, extending, volumizing, thickening...tubing? There's a fresh term in the mascara-hype lexicon. More and more mascaras claim to enhance lashes by forming tiny tubes around every lash. The concept sounded to us like a bit of magical thinking, but according to independent cosmetic chemist Yoram Fishman, there really is something different about "tubing" mascaras. "Most mascaras are oil- or wax-based; they're essentially paints. These formulas are water-based and contain polymers that form a solid film around each lash once the product dries," he said. When we tried them (a whole bunch of them: Blinc, L'Oréal Paris Double Extend Beauty Tubes Technology, VMV Hypoallergenics Ooh-La-Lash, Too Faced Lash Injection, Prestige Lash Matrix, Stila Convertible Mascara), we discovered the appeal. Tubing mascaras refuse to smear, smudge, or flake. The formulas dissolve in warm water; just a few splashes and those little tubes slip right off—no remover, rubbing, or raccoon circles of residue."

This is essentially a lengthening mascara as it did nothing to volumize my lashes. But honestly, having ten long skinny lashes on each eye is far from attractive. SO here is my AMAZING remedy to transform those pathetic stubs into gorgeous luscious lashes:

Make-up:
Helena Rubinstein Primer
Diorshow
Fiberwig

tools:
shu uemura eyelash curler

method:
1. Curl your eyelashes.
2. Put on 2-3 layers of primer until your lashes look white. The primer makes your eyelashes look thicker and longer.
3. Go crazy and add as many layers of fiberwig as you want. I usually put on 3 coats on top if I am going clubbing for a really dramatic look.
4. Add 1 layer of diorshow to thicken the lashes. I prefer to add the diorshow after the fiberwig since fiberwig doesn't really clump, resulting in a cleaner finish.

Results? Well, I'll post pics later. BUTTTT a friend of mine asked me if I was wearing fake lashes because they looked super long. success.

Imju Fiberwig Mascara available at any SaSa store, $108.
